Meet Flora: Low-Cost Therapist in Toronto
You may be considering therapy because you are anxious, burned out, overly self-critical, or stuck in the same emotional or relationship difficulties despite trying hard to change. These struggles often have a history. The ways we respond to closeness, conflict, expectations, and difficult emotions can be shaped by early relationships, family experiences, cultural pressures, and experiences that taught us what we needed to do to stay safe, connected, or accepted.
I work with adults who find themselves caught in recurring emotional and relational patterns, including anxiety, perfectionism, self-criticism, burnout, people-pleasing, and difficulties with closeness, trust, or boundaries. My approach is attachment-informed, IFS-informed, and trauma-informed. Together, we may explore how earlier experiences continue to influence your sense of self, your relationships, and the ways you respond when you feel overwhelmed, rejected, criticized, or disconnected.
I am especially interested in understanding the ways we learn to protect ourselves when something feels difficult, unsafe, or overwhelming. This may show up as overthinking, people-pleasing, emotional distancing, perfectionism, self-criticism, or feeling responsible for keeping everything under control. Rather than seeing these responses as problems to simply get rid of, I aim to understand what they may have helped you cope with and whether they are still serving you in the same way today.
My style is warm, collaborative, and reflective. I aim to create a space where difficult experiences can be explored at a pace that feels manageable, while also helping you develop greater flexibility in how you relate to your emotions, yourself, and the people around you.
As an East Asian immigrant who has also worked in a corporate environment, I bring particular sensitivity to the impact of culture, family expectations, achievement pressure, comparison, immigration, and navigating between different values and identities. I welcome clients from all cultural backgrounds, while having a particular interest in working with adults and professionals who want to better understand how their history may be influencing their present relationships, emotions, and sense of self.
Therapy does not have to mean rejecting your past, your family, or your culture. It can be a place to understand what you have been carrying, develop a different relationship with the parts of yourself that learned to protect you, and create more room for choice, connection, and a way of living that feels more aligned with who you are.
If you would like to explore whether we might be a good fit, you are welcome to reach out for a free consultation.
I also offer therapy in Mandarin.
